Medical/Surgical Department
The Almonte General Hospital has 21 medical and surgical beds for in-patients
requiring acute care. The interdisciplinary care team provides care for patients
of all ages, from neonates to the elderly, requiring a diverse mix of skills.
Members of the team include your attending physician, the nursing staff,
physiotherapist, occupational therapist, pharmacist, discharge planner and
community access coordinator.
From admission to discharge, the team's goal is to optimize an individual's own
abilities, promote a safe transition back into the community and ensure that
follow-up services are in place. The team also ensures that compassionate and
skilled palliative care is available for patients who require that level of
care.
Each patient room now in the Medical-Surgical Unit has its own washroom. The
Unit also has a new tub room and shower facility and two new ward rooms of
three beds each. Two rooms have been converted into private isolation rooms
with their own ventilation systems to manage infectious patients.
The Hospital's surgical facilities have expanded to include a new pre-surgery
assessment room. The former ER has become a recovery room, meaning post-surgical
patients are no longer transferred upstairs to the Medical-Surgical Unit during
the recovery period.
