AGH/FVM Family Mourns the Passing of Leonard Lee

Members of the Almonte General Hospital (AGH) Board of Directors, AGH/Fairview Manor (FVM) Foundation Board of Directors, AGH and FVM physicians, staff and volunteers are deeply saddened by the passing of Leonard Lee on July 7, 2016.

Mr. Lee was a founding director of the Almonte General Hospital Foundation and went on to co-chair the Hospital’s first major capital fundraising campaign, Quality Care for Life with Mrs. Mary Hugessen. The successful campaign, which took place from 2003-2008, helped fund the new Fairview Manor, which was expanded to 112 beds from 100, and saw renovations to the Emergency, Obstetrics, X-Ray and Ultrasound departments which were all completely modernized. Their efforts helped encourage generous community support totalling $4 million of the total $29 million cost of the redevelopment of the Hospital and Manor.

As a much sought after speaker in business circles across North American because of his successful founding and expansion of both Lee Valley Tools and Canica Design, a medical tool company, Mr. Lee contributed thousands of dollars to the campaign himself by redirecting his speaker’s fees to the Hospital and Manor Foundation. This was but one of the entrepreneurial ways Mr. Lee supported health care close to home, something about which he felt very strongly. Mr. Lee remained active on the Foundation board until 2011.

The AGH-FVM family extends condolences to his wife Lorraine, sons Robin and James, and their families.

Two Hospitals. One Goal. The very best care close to home.

Almonte General Hospital (AGH) and Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital (CPDMH) have a history of collaboration. The two hospitals are now forming stronger ties with a single goal: better care.

As part of this new partnership, the Mississippi River Health Alliance has been created to support ongoing planning. As well, the two hospitals will share a President and Chief Executive Officer. Mary Wilson Trider will assume the role in September 2016, at the time of Toni Surko’s retirement as CPDMH’s Chief Executive Officer.

The hospitals have been working closely with the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) to develop this plan. The plan will be presented to the Champlain LHIN Board at their April 27th meeting.
