Junior Volunteer Program
The Almonte General Hospital (AGH) Junior Volunteer Program runs each summer. The Junior
Volunteer Program gives the senior volunteers a well-deserved summer vacation. The patients and
staff enjoy having young people in the Hospital and the students learn a great deal.
Junior Volunteers are students in Grade 7 to Grade 12. Junior Volunteers at AGH help out in
several different capacities, including delivering juice and snacks, visiting patients in the
Hospital’s Medical-Surgical and Rosamond units and assisting staff in the Day Hospital,
Physiotherapy, Recreology and Medical Records departments. They also volunteer in the Hospital
Gift Shop.
The program has one or more student co-ordinators, who conduct orientation sessions for
junior volunteers, schedule their shifts and oversee the program. The co-ordinator(s) organize
an August pizza party to thank the junior volunteers and prepare certificates of appreciation.
They also complete the paperwork students require to demonstrate that they have performed
volunteer work. High school students must perform 40 hours of community service prior to
graduation, so the AGH Junior Volunteer Program is an opportunity to fulfill that requirement.
