Fairview Manor
Fairview Manor is a 100-bed long-term care facility located in the municipality of
Mississippi Mills, which, with a population of more than 11,000, is the largest municipality
in Lanark County. Serving the northern part of the County, the Manor has been home to hundreds
of seniors over the past 27 years, providing high-quality long-term care in a home-like
environment.
The Manor offers programs within a long-term care environment that respect residents’
individuality, dignity, privacy and personal choice, while meeting their physical, functional,
psychosocial and cognitive needs. The Manor provides a secure unit for residents who require
close monitoring and a sensory stimulation room to help agitated residents relax.
Fairview Manor is served by general practitioners and a variety of other health care
professionals providing a continuum of care, including nurses, personal support workers,
and health care aides. It has a general rehabilitation program, which includes physiotherapy,
occupational therapy, and therapeutic recreation. Through Lanark County Mental Health, the
Manor has immediate access to a mental health crisis resource team to help it treat mentally
ill patients.
A monthly hearing aid clinic is held at the Manor, for residents and the general public.
Fairview Manor has had its three-year accreditation renewed and also recently obtained an
outstanding report from provincial long-term care standards compliance staff. “All
residents interviewed were complimentary of the staff and the care and services they
receive,” said the report summarizing the review’s observations. “There are
a wide variety of programs to meet resident needs. The home continues to provide excellent
therapy and restorative care to the residents. The facility is clean, odour-free and
well-maintained.” The report also notes with approval the availability of dental
and foot care at the Manor.
The construction of Fairview Manor, which opened in September 1977, was the result of
years of community effort. In fact, the idea for a long-term care facility in Almonte came
from a sub-committee of the Almonte General Hospital (AGH) Board of Directors, and it was the
leadership of Lanark County Council that ultimately led to the construction and opening of the
Manor.
In 1999, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care indicated that the Manor no
longer met provincial design standards and required redevelopment. In June 2002, AGH and the
County of Lanark reached an agreement to redevelop Fairview Manor that will see a new, 112-bed
long-term care facility built on land adjacent to the Hospital. The Redevelopment Project also
includes expansion and renovations to the Almonte General Hospital. The Hospital, new long-term
care facility and existing Manor will be connected by a covered link. The new facility and AGH
will share administrative and support services and the existing Manor will be used for other
purposes.
As part of the agreement, AGH agreed to assume management responsibilities for the existing
Manor, effective July 1, 2002. The two facilities have been sharing support services since 1999.
Ownership of the existing Manor was transferred to AGH on October 1, 2004.
