Message from the Foundation Board Chair
Our community’s health care depends on all of the people who are committed to high-quality
hospital and long-term care services. Medical staff, health-care workers, support staff, and
volunteers join with the families and friends of patients and residents and others in our
community to make the Almonte General Hospital and Fairview Manor the high-quality, caring
places they are today.
We have a right to be proud of the Almonte General Hospital and Fairview Manor. They provide
outstanding services and operate in a fiscally responsible manner.
As our community grows and ages, the demands on our hospital and long-term care services will
grow. If we are to be ready to meet these growing needs, we must act now. The Almonte General
Hospital-Fairview Manor Redevelopment Project will ensure that we continue to have outstanding
acute-care, chronic-care and long-term care facilities for our community.
This Project will see a new, 112-bed long-term care facility built for our seniors, expand
and upgrade the Hospital’s emergency, ambulatory, in-patient care, obstetrical and lab
departments, and purchase new equipment for the x-ray and medical-surgical departments. This
leading-edge project will bring the most modern hospital and long-term care services to our
community, and will help us attract and retain the best health-care professionals.
A unique feature of the project is the co-location of the Hospital, new long-term care
facility and existing Manor. The three buildings will be connected by a covered link, making it
easy for patients, residents, volunteers, visitors and staff to move from location to location.
The new long-term care facility and the Hospital will share administrative and support services,
and the existing Fairview Manor will be used for other community purposes.
Many in the community have worked tirelessly to bring this Project to our community. Now
that it is underway, we must continue to work together as a community. That is why the Almonte
General Hospital-Fairview Manor Foundation has been established to raise funds for the
Redevelopment Project.
The Project is being funded through contributions from the province, the County of Lanark
and existing AGH resources. The balance will be funded from the local community.
The Foundation has launched the “Quality Care For Life” campaign to raise this
local share.
Our goal is to raise $4 million for the Redevelopment Project, which has been a dream in our
community for almost 10 years. Your decision to get involved and support the campaign will
help turn that dream into reality.
It’s an ambitious target, but we believe our fundraising campaign will succeed because
this community has a proven track record of generously supporting the Hospital and the Manor.
Our campaign will reach out to the Hospital and Foundation Boards, our medical staff, employees
and volunteers. It will reach out to everyone who has an interest in the Hospital and the Manor,
through their own experience as a patient or resident or through the experiences of family and
friends. We will also need the support of other individuals and of local businesses, charitable
organizations, service clubs and local government.
I urge you to explore this site to find out more about the Redevelopment Project and how you
can help.
In the meantime, don’t hesitate to contact me or any other Board members if you have any questions about the project. You can send me an email at m.hug@sympatico.ca.
